What is your take on tyranid shooting?
The great thing about them is the variation of strength and shots depending on which creature you give the weapon to, and also because they count as assault weapons.
Some people seem to disregard it due to the lack of range on some weapons and their average ballistic skill giving them only 4+ to hit. Well, it's the same for Tau and guard...

i find the guns quite useless really... claws are alot more affective... and so is a hive tyrant with 4 of them hehe run forward slash and destroy

That's what people have always done; go for claws and disregard shooting completly. While nids are terrifing in assualts, you would be giving a huge advantage to the other player if you deny yourself of shooting completly.
Whether it's still the same or not, the highest Ap on a nid weapon is 4, and the longest range being 36" (except for the spore mine launcher (48"), but that's a heavy weapon), which usually put people off of them as well, but really you should take a few shooters to cover your main assualt. Without it you'll have to fork out a horrendous amount of points just to keep the numbers high enough to reach your opponent, which at that point only about half of them actually see combat.

Ah yea. Got loads of Termagants to repaint thinking about it...
People tend to do the opposite when facing me though, they always went for the warriors first (being a delicate unit back then...).

well ive got a truck load of hormagents and termagents (ignore my spelling) alot of warriors. but every time i play people seem to forget my tyrant hand wings and if they have tanks always try and just kill my warriors.... then they get eaten by tyrant.
geuss its way i play if i ignore something on my feild and concentrate on something else the person playing me concentrate on that to. i hate genestealers but i have 12 thrown in for good measure... i ignore them... cant stand them. but they barely get shot at! lmao... no idea why cause hell they kill alot! so i geuss its when i ignore some thing the person playing you thinks its not part of your plan... people should under stnad i dont have a plan i just run forward and kill.... im not the great tactioner people say i am after playing lmao!! sorry i find it hilarious

...i hate genestealers but i have 12 thrown in for good measure... Just went through my old collection to see what's worth repainting and I've got about 30 ['space hulk'] 'stealers, about the same in termagants and about 16-20 Hormaguants. Just need a handful of warriors to lead them...

I agree that larger 'Nids can be extremely effective...and that a legion of smaller ones can be quite effective. It's slightly more intimidating having hordes of bugs charge at you though, rather than snipe...

Having now read the new codex they have improved the weapons a lot. They've upped the ranges on some of them and living ammo makes termagants very nasty indeed. Were devourers range 18" to begin with? Even if they were that is still good as you don't have to be within your opponent's charge range to use them.
Venom cannons can only cause glancing hits unfortunatly, but can now cause penetrating hits on open topped vehicles, which is very useful!
